I listened to feedback about this upcoming change, and I’m altering course. I found a company that will screen residents from Arkansas, Idaho Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Virginia to make sure they are over 18. The company attempts to do this through a nonintrusive method by first analyzing a member’s email. If that doesn’t work, the company will ask for identification, and confidentially confirm a members age. The process isn’t implemented yet. I’ll update you when it’s live.
I appreciate the feedback I’ve gotten on this. I do my best to listen to my members.
TL/DR: There should be no disruption for members in states with AV laws.
ORIGINAL POST: Several states in the U.S. have recently passed age verification laws for adult oriented sites. I make sure to keep only PG-13 material in front of the paywall, so I am probably in compliance. But, unfortunately, I’m going to have to be sure. That means that I will soon implement a change to block traffic from IP addresses in the following states: Arkansas, Idaho Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. If you live in one of those states, you may want to think about contacting your state government to repeal those laws. You might also want to think about changing your IP address via a VPN, although I don’t advise you to do so. I’m not sure when this change will take place, but I am working on it.
One of the reasons Louisiana didn’t get banned by other sites is they implemented their own verification that does not share information other whether they are legal age.
I’ve been getting senior citizen discounts since I was 27. Now that I’m 67 I must look older than the hills.
It is flattering to be thought of as under 18. As long as I don’t have to make the same mistakes that I made before, I’m good to go. Lol
Excellent! I had to be sneaky to see my fathers naughty stash before I turned 18 so let the youngsters stay innocent a little longer. It seems unfair when you are young but it isn’t like curiosity about the other sex will actually hurt you if you have to wait a little longer.
