Poll for choosing a new short story: expires 7/8/25

  • Post author:

Elora’s Tast of Black Magic is finished. CreamCadet and I will need a new project to collaborate on. She wants to work in a fantasy setting, so please make pitches in the high fantasy Rawly universe: also known as Mothers & Monsters.

Thank you all for your awesome ideas. We have narrowed down the story prompts to a few. You decide what story we’ll work on. Vote for your TWO favorite ideas. The winner will become a new multi-chapter story. Poll expires in about a week: 7/8/25.

I appreciate you adding another one of my suggestions 🙂 Especially because it didn’t get the most likes. Never seems to be able to break through the popularity barrier.

Motherly love is the best, but a sister can really spice up the story. Almost every rawly story has an important sister character and I think they deserve more love

Yeah. Not for me. To each their own

    So . . . A couple, three, dozen things.

The magical academy is looking like it will win but I think the dragon rider one has the most potential. It could even be a return to the universe of the wicked tower, I suggest this selfishly as it was one of my favorite works of yours. The wicked tower universe has great potential.

To my man will who only wants updates to existing stories, rawly has explained that the pace of releases of story chapters is linked to having art for the illustrated version. And that the pace of the art creation depends on the visual artist. Thus she has limited control over the pace of story releases. I would not link them so but if memory serves the illustrated stories are a slightly higher membership fee and thus it maybe a business decision to link the releases.

Secondly, creativity is bit like cat, not entirely domesticated. It doesn’t Always come when you call it, it often wanders, and is then it is found in odd places. It may be that rawly is stuck on one story but has an idea for another. A professional artist produces art first, then Hopes it finds a market. Rawly produces stories, she may be stuck on one and not produce chapters for months but working on another one triggers an idea to get unstuck somewhere else. Effort is spent, pages are produced, hopefully in the stories and in ways her audience likes.

It’s a process but not a straight line. That has been my experience working with creatives, anyway. Sometimes it has to be forced into a straight line and and sometimes that pressure does create diamonds. Sometimes it creates just passable work. Given the serial nature of her stories bad patches create lingering problems.
For instance Star Trek DS9 made a mistake when they had to replace jadzia Dax with ezeri Dax and then they were stuck with a shit character for the rest of the shows run and now she stinks up parts of the last season forever.

I would rather have different good story then forced mediocre chapters of a more liked story. What’s the rush?

Thanks for the thoughtful response! I agree with most of what you wrote. The only correction I’d have is that for me, I don’t ever avoid stories because of creativity. When I switch to a story, I read the previous chapter, and then the next chapter always flows from that. I don’t really have issues with writer’s block or anything. That said, I do have stories that are more fun to write than others, like I’m really enjoying Marooned Christmas right now. But overall, the format of switching from story to story has to do with the differential in speed between writing and illustrations, and keeping each illustrated story going at its own pace, like you said.

Hey Rawls, why my suggestion is not on the list…? It got 15 votes the 2nd most voted….

We have to cut down the list to create the poll, unfortunately your idea didn’t make the cut. We chose the ideas that best matched our interest for this project.

    Again
Please no more new stories. You have some really fine ones that could do with more frequent updates.
It is hard to maintain interest in them Usually I read one book at a time. Please concentrate on finishing or adding more to what you have already created .

Of course, I always offer an existing story to an artist when a new project is starting. But CreamCadet didn’t want to work on the two existing stories I offered her. As for all the projects that I do, I do that because illustrating moves much slower than writing. I write most of these stories when the illustrator needs a new chapter. I could get rid of illustrations entirely, and focus on only one story at a time. But I think I would lose most of my business if I did that.
