A few notes about the site.

  • Post author:

1. I’ve decided to stop running a monthly illustrator poll. Instead, I’ll post one twice a year. I’ll also think over how best to run the poll to get helpful results. If you have thoughts on how many votes you should get per poll, or any other ideas about the polls, feel free to post them in the comments below. I’m thinking about letting people vote for as many illustrators as they like, but not sure.

2. I wanted to remind everybody that you can change your rating for any story at any time. All you have to do is pick a different “dark stone” and rate again. You’re not locked into your rating, so feel free to adjust as stories progress.

3. I’m aware of the speed issues the site is having. I’m moving the site to a new hosting company soon, and that should make it lightning fast moving forward. Hopefully this will happen in the next couple weeks.

4. I saw the requests for a popup login button, and that should be added sometime soon. Also with a recent change, members can stay logged in for 14 days at a time.

Question why the change I’m just curious. Also how a poll twice a year one in the beginning of the year and one at the end. Also keep it active throughout the year that way people can vote still. Plus if this once every two years will you then update us saying this person left etc. I’m just curious.

I’ll space out the polls. I wasn’t getting much engagement, and always getting the same results, so I thought part of the problem might be having what is essentially a constant poll going. I’m trying to freshen it up.

I see. What do you mean engagement like comments and such. Perhaps spacing will be good. Though I think twice a year would be good. It could be people are like. Oh that guy yeah and the other’s whatever. Like seeing that constantly is like boring. Sometimes I get confused with it because I’m like wait is this one different from the last one lol. I get ya. See if this works better. Hmmmm. … maybe a rating system for each artist could work? Just a thought. Also side note I’m having trouble with my email. I seem not to be getting updates on your stuff and didn’t even you commented back to me until I checked here. So curious what I could do?

        1. Rawls

That’s helpful feedback. I was thinking along those lines.

As for your email, it wasn’t in my email database for whatever reason, so I added it. You should get the emails again.

Thanks Rawls. As far as the artist rating. I was thinking isn’t us rating the illustrated works kinda the same thing that we are talking about. Or when we rate those are you I don’t know how to say it but looking for something else. Because I feel when we rate the illustrated version we are telling you what we think of the art and essentially the artist. I don’t know if you want to look at that instead for feedback. Another thing perhaps when you do the sketches stuff you can ask for us to rate it and see what we think beforehand as well. I feel with the sketches it would help a lot. The only thing a lot people don’t comment for some reason so there is that issue. But like I said I feel some sort of rating system would work the best and twice a year. I feel once every two years is a little too long.

            1. Rawls

Yes, I would put up the polls twice a year or so. I think comments are more helpful than ratings for sketches, but again, engagement is low. The same is true on my Discord. I have thousands of people passing through, put only a few of them comment, rate, or vote. I think that’s just the nature of NSFW content.

Sorry to be a broken record here but I’m still logged out everyday and have to re login every nite (I never close the tab). Certainly no big deal but figured you might want to know it’s not working yet or perhaps just not working for me.

So, I have confirmed over on Discord that the new 14 day login is working. This must be some sort of issue on your end. Maybe your browser deletes cookies when it logs off?

i still think singular, unlimited options poll is the best.. This would provide the most useful data, as it would be more clearly demonstrative of how each artist is perceived to be performing by your customers. You may just find, with a poll like that, that some artists are actually better received than the current “limit 5” polls would suggest.

    1. Rawls

This is probably what I’ll try first.

Another thought about the polls… You could do 2 polls. 1st round is any and all illustrators and everyone gets a single vote.

The 2nd round, limit the illusrators to the top 4 or 5 from the 1st round and possibly averaging that pole to the results of the previous pole. However you choose the illustrators for the 2nd round, weight the higher level subscribers votes.

You could get more voters if you also offered any previous subscribers the chance (or even anyone who participates) to get a fee month’s subscription for participating. My first thought is 1 out of every 10 or every 5.

Alternately, offer start to finish or to current on their favorite story for participating. A little automation would keep either option from creating a bunch of work.

    1. Rawls

This is an interesting suggestion, but I worry about making things too complicated.

For the polls. Maybe do two polls; one public, and one for members on the illustrations tier. Then have the poll so that the members on that tier have a weighted vote.

    1. Rawls

That might be too sophisticated for my polling software.

      1. Evil Modder

        Sorry, I meant like this:
        Create two polls.
When you collect the votes on the public poll, count each vote as one vote.
When you collect the votes on the illustrated poll, count each vote as two votes.

        1. Rawls

Unfortunately, I can’t restrict the polls by member level.
