Considering a member price increase.

  • Post author:

I have to consider raising my prices. The $10 Max level, which started in February 2021, would be $11.60 today if adjusted for inflation. The other argument in favor of raising prices is that I’m offering a lot more than I used to back in 2021. I’m writing a ton and working with more regular collaborations than ever before.

The argument in favor of keeping prices status quo is that I like offering a great value 🙂 Honestly, I’m leaning toward leaving prices as they are for another year, but I would love to hear your feedback on a possible modest price increase.

Let me know what you think.

12.00$ is more than fair for the value.

  2. Roan9999

I be more than happy it being put at 15.00$. I know it may be outlandish for others, yet I personally feel that you work is more than worth it. There are other artists that do not provide new work as frequently or the level of quality. Definitely for the the price you offer. I am appreciative of your work.

  3. Slick Pillar

I’m cool with it, I just read it’s a two-dollar increase for Max. Which is funny because I was gonna write more than two dollars and I’m fucking out. Please remember we’re all suffering from inflation. Thank you for all your great work, Rawls. Ps (I’m so confused about your gender now. Way back JDSeal referred to you as a female multiple times but this John P person calls you a male multiple times. Not that I give a fuck or it’s any of my business, just sayin.)

    1. Rawls

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t correct anyone on my gender, I’ve never made anything official in that regard. Although I do prefer she/her pronouns.

  4. talex12

Ok. But recently the site seems to have slowed down. So…

    1. Rawls

It has not slowed down. Even with Redoxa’s missing production, we’re moving right along. I post the monthly output on my Discord server.

      1. mvilla

not all of us have the ability to visit discord. is/are there any series on discord that aren’t on this site?

        1. Rawls

No everything I make is on the site. Discord is a place where people can ask me questions or get information about what I’m doing. If you’re curious what I’m writing on any given day, that’s posted there. If you would like to see monthly updates on my production, that’s there. But there aren’t any chapters posted there, just questions, updates, etc.

  5. AnotherGuyEntirely

I find this entirely reasonable. I think you provide a lot of great content

  6. Anteater

I am fine as long as the price increase is reasonable.

I had the pleasure of proofreading Rawly’s work for two years. The stories he’s written are unlike anything I’ve read elsewhere: Enki’s Puzzle, Palmer Mansion, Pleistocene Ring, Mothership Wilderness, The Missus Ring — we all have our favorites.

I saw day after day, week after week, the incredible effort and dedication that Rawly puts into his work. Even when suffering from long COVID and its complications, he pushed himself relentlessly to keep writing and publishing .

I’m typing this with my 24 oz. Dunkin’ coffee at my elbow; it set me back $3.59. That and a $ 9.99 six-pack of Miller High Life — the Champagne of Bottled Beer — would cover six months of the price difference.

Rawly, you’ve more than earned the proposed minimal increases. Stay healthy, and please keep writing.

    1. Rawls

Great to hear from you! Thanks for the kind words 🙂 Best case scenario would be to have enough spending money to read my stories with a bottle of Miller High Life on a nearby coaster.

  8. Lobria

Hey man. Listen I know I can be critical of your work but I know how much work you put into this. The fact that you release everything once a week on time. That to me is dedication and shows that you care. Only time was when you were sick for good reasons. I feel this price change is acceptable after all you need to make a living. Not only that all the other content on this site you provide for us. sometimes it’s slow but that’s good it get’s better the next month. I feel this is ok. In the end it’s your choice but do what is good for you and makes you feel good.

I really like the idea suggested above about an annual subscription options as well. I of course would prefer rates don’t go up and we increase number of subscribersinstead but certainly understand that things are expensive and quality isn’t free.

  10. cmj15301

Understand if it helps keep the site going.

  11. rtr9209

    Hi there.

I never like to see prices go up, however, I also understand the way of the world right now with inflation and everything else. If a small price increase would help you keep producing the great product you supply then I would be all for it.

  12. magnoth

Are you considering raising all levels of memberships?

    1. Rawls

See my post two comments down. I cover the possible changes to all levels there.

  13. Drakefyre

I know I’m late to the party, but you came in with the tiers that would have been right in line with my suggestions.

  14. Rawls

I appreciate the feedback, everyone! You’ve given me more to think over. I’ll announce a decision in a couple weeks. If I move forward with a price change, it would probably be Basic at $7, Max at $12, Plus at $14, and Elite at $29.

With regards to an annual membership: unfortunately, the membership system I have is not able to accommodate annual payments.

I’ll have more on all this later. Thank you for the feedback and support!

  15. frozenjake

I can only offer my own thoughts: The current rate for MemberMax is fine for a few months, but I tend to let it drop off for a few as well. I am in no way suggesting that you or the artists need to change how you’re doing business; my finances dictate I must be careful with what I spend, especially for something that isn’t food and housing. Your site is very much a luxury (and a welcome one), but one I definitely support when I can!

  16. Divway

I agree with a lot of the feed back on a modest increase. Oh, and that mentioned below, if you offered a discount on a yearly rate, I think that would be great too.

  17. darkstone9

I wouldn’t mind a modest increase but would really prefer if the increase came with the option for an annual subscription discount + prices staying the same through this fiscal year.

  18. polotus2328

I think the increase is warranted. Like someone else said below, if you offered a discount on a yearly rate, I think that would be great too.

    1. DarkAngelJL

Truthfully the modest increase isn’t bad at all, especially with inflation. Love your work.

  19. Planet4

Your output is above and beyond. I would not flinch at a $3 increase, let alone $2. So adjusting for inflation or a bit beyond sounds like good value.

Bump that sucker up, I’ll be here.

  20. rubenibanez

Adjusting for inflation is a necessity in every comercial endeavor.

    Do it.

  21. unlabel

Maybe consider a discount for an annual rate? I am thinking of if the base went up $2 then for one of the higher scales give a discount for an annual say instead of the old $25 x 12 ($300) New rate annual plan would be $310 still a small increase but not an uncomfortable one. I would be interested in going up a scale if it was in addition to an overall price increase site-wide, especially if I got a small break on the overall annual cost.

  22. mvilla

sorta related: is redoxa coming back? I know he/she has helped grow your site with quite a few of your current (and popular) series.

    1. Rawls

Redoxa is very ill. He is a good friend, and I am wishing him a speedy recovery. If that doesn’t happen, I will eventually decide what to do with his projects. But right now, I expect him to return.

  23. ReadRawls69

I don’t envy the pace you’ve set for your creations and if a modest increase helps offset any strain from the effort then I’m for it. Your writing is much appreciated

  24. dragon2age

In favor of the 2 dollar ( or whatever ) price incease as long as you keep growing your platform , bring in new artist and so forfth 👍 keep up the grind 🫡

  25. WillnotWilliam

The choice is truly up to you. Only you know the value of your time and effort (not to mention the amount of time & effort) in keeping up with this website. I will agree with DM1485 below, if you do increase prices, keep it to full dollar amounts.

  26. DM1485

-shrug- i’m of two minds on this.. On the one hand, inflation IS a thing, and it IS impacting us all.. with that in mind, a modest price increase is warranted, as your dollar is worth less now, than it was 3 years ago.

On the other hand….because your dollar, and my dollar, and everyone else’s dollar is worth less now, than it was 3 years ago, a modest price increase might cause people to shift tiers, because: budgets. the end result may be enough tier-shifting where you find yourself making even less money than before the price increase.

It’s a bigger gamble than an Adam Sandler picture, and i’m glad it ain’t my call to make.

I only ask that if you DO increase prices, please try to make it an even number.

  27. JTass

I’d be willing to pay a few dollars more per month, especially considering the frequency of updates and new material posted recently.
I think an increase of more than $3 would lead me to dropping down from the Member Plus level to Member Max.

  28. Lead_Cenobite

I agree with your reasoning. Your output has indeed increased since 2021. And the increase is almost nothing so I wouldn’t mind paying the extra fee (Max member myself).

How ever I do agree with one of the earlier comments. To maybe leaving the Elite pricing as is.

    Keep up the great writing

  29. crazydorian

I think a price increase for basic, plus and members would be reasonable, but maybe leave the elite price at $25, since it mainly exists to show some extra appreciation.

  30. comicrelief

I just became a member and I feeling a bit of a butinsky
That price increase is minimal and content is worth the increase.

  31. Prill_10

The potential price increase is a reasonable ask due to the value you supply to your readers. The volume of content has clearly increased over the years.

  32. buxomxhunter

Price increase. I am currently paying $25 a month for elite status. How much would you increase the Elite status? If you increase it to $30 a month, I would have to reconsider another level below Elite, if it was a dollar or two more, I don’t think I would mind. I’m retired and living on a fixed income, so I have to budget for this. But I know you have to make a living and be compensated for your work and it is a lot of content.
Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate it.
    Ted

    1. Rawls

Any increases would be very modest, no more than $2 for any membership.

    2. comicrelief

If the 16% increase holds for all that would be $4 increase on a $25 membership. I would expect a membership scale increase is possible; but, it is understandable for a cross the board standard increase.

  33. Evil Modder

Maybe keep the prices as they are until the end of the year?
    It’s worth it either way.
